Damon Owens is a dedicated dog trainer, military veteran, and former law enforcement K9 handler with a lifelong passion for canine behavior and training. As the founder of Day One K9 Academy in Wicksburg, Alabama, Damon combines years of real-world experience with proven training methods to help dogs and their owners build stronger, more confident relationships.
Damon’s journey began during his service in the U.S. Army, where he deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Serving in combat operations for route clearance missions in the challenging terrain of southeast Afghanistan taught him the value of discipline, leadership, and clear communication — skills that now form the foundation of his dog training methods.
Following his military service, Damon transitioned to law enforcement, where he became a certified K9 handler with hundreds of successful deployments in detection, tracking, and criminal apprehension. He further advanced his expertise by earning his Trainer’s Certification from the prestigious Houston K9 Academy in Houston, Texas, where he mastered advanced training techniques in obedience, behavior modification, and protection work.
At Day One K9 Academy, Damon offers customized training programs that focus on obedience, personal protection, tracking, and more. His Board & Train programs provide structured, results-driven training, while his Complete Puppy Package and Puppy Readiness Evaluation set young dogs on the path to success.
